Grief and loss support group meets monthly
April 20, 2023Grief is the response to loss, particularly to the loss of someone or some living thing that has died, to which a bond or affection was formed. A normal response to loss, grief can happen in response to loss of life, as well as to drastic changes to daily routines and ways of life that usually bring us comfort and a feeling of stability. People cope with losses in different ways. If you need help dealing with your loss, CMH Community Hospice invites you to join their monthly support groups, supporting those experiencing grief and loss.
Samantha Lewis, BSW, leads the small but mighty group. She says she has seen first-hand the healing that takes place when participants open up to peers experiencing the same thing.
“Grief can be lonely, hopeless and depressing,” Lewis said. “When you hear how other people are doing and share your story, painful as it may be, a big weight is lifted off your shoulders. We offer a safe place to learn about the process, hear about coping mechanisms and experience healing.”
Support groups are held the second Tuesday of each month from 5:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. in rooms 1113 and 1114 of the C.A.R.E. Building located at 1755 N. Mecklenburg Ave in South Hill. Please enter through the main hospital lobby, as the C.A.R.E. Building entrance is closed at 5 p.m.
Registration is not required but is appreciated. For additional information please contact Samantha, by emailing samantha.lewis@vcuhealth.org or calling (434) 447-0838.
